Daniel Voytas
Dr. Daniel F. Voytas has joined Cellectis plant sciences from its inception as Chief Scientific Officer. Dr. Voytas is Professor in the Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Development and Director of the Center for Genome Engineering at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Specializing in molecular biology and genetics, Dr. Voytas’ research focuses on plant Genome modification using nucleases that recognize specific DNA sequences. Dr. Voytas graduated from Harvard College in 1984 and received his Ph.D. from Harvard Medical School in 1990. He conducted postdoctoral research at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where he was a fellow of the Life Science Research Foundation. In 1992, Dr. Voytas joined the faculty at Iowa State University. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1997 and to Professor in 2001. In 2008, he joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Voytas is an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is an Associate Editor for the journal Genetics and Senior Editor for the journal Mobile DNA. Dr. Voytas is co-founder of the Zinc Finger Consortium, a group of scientists dedicated to promoting applications of zinc finger proteins for Genome modification. He has authored or co-authored several dozen scientific papers in the field of genetic engineering of plant species.
